Nelsy Badia is a Spanish/Dominican-American violist, who began playing viola at 8 years old. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Stony Brook University and a Master’s degree from Mannes School of Music, both in viola performance. Her passion for the viola has led her to perform in world renowned venues including Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Blossom Music Center. Nelsy's musical talents have flourished at notable festivals such as the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, Kent Blossom Music Festival, Center Stage Strings, Bard Music Festival, Music House International, and Academia Internaciónal de Música de Solsona. Notably, as part of the Kent Blossom Music Festival, Nelsy has had the privilege of performing with Cleveland Orchestra on multiple ocassions.

Nelsy's orchestral experience includes engagements with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, The Orchestra Now, Westside Chamber Players, Mannes Orchestra, and Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra. Currently, Nelsy frequents with The Orchestra Now (TÅŒN) as an associate musician. She is a Harmony Fellow with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, whom she performs with and participates in education and community engagement. Her dedication extends past performing to nurturing aspiring musicians as a committed violin and viola instructor at the Joyous Music School and the Herald School of Music and Arts, ensuring a harmonious future for the world of classical music. In addition to her musical achievements, Nelsy actively works as an engineer as she also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and Master’s degree in Construction Engineering and Management, underscoring her commitment to both creative and technical excellence. In her free time, she enjoys hiking with friends, eating seafood, and traveling the world.
