Nelsy Badia is a Spanish/Dominican-American violist with a Bachelor’s degree from Stony Brook University and a Master’s degree from Mannes School of Music, both in viola performance. Her passion for the viola has led her to perform in world renowned venues including Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Blossom Music Center. Nelsy's orchestral experience includes engagements with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, The Orchestra San Antonio, The Cleveland Orchestra, The New York International Symphony Orchestra, The Orchestra Now, and Westside Chamber Players. She has shared the stage with notable artists including Lang Lang, Augustin Hadelich, and Randall Goosby. Nelsy has participated in festivals such as the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, Kent Blossom Music Festival, Center Stage Strings, Bard Music Festival, Music House International, and the Academia Internaciónal de Música de Solsona.

Currently, Nelsy frequents with The Orchestra Now (TŌN) as an associate musician. She is a Harmony Fellow with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, whom she performs with and participates in education and community engagement. Her dedication extends past performing to nurturing aspiring musicians as a committed violin and viola instructor at the Joyous Music School, the Herald School of Music and Arts, as well as her own private music studio. In addition to her musical achievements, Nelsy also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a Master’s degree in Construction Engineering and Management, underscoring her commitment to both creative and technical excellence. In her free time, she enjoys hiking with friends, eating seafood, and traveling the world.
